There is an almost endless list of things to do in Ariege and its neighbouring department and we really feel that there is something to suit almost any taste, and for all ages. In terms of active pursuits, there are numerous options for local walks (high peaks and valleys), plus biking as the back roads are virtually deserted of cars (but beware, it is hilly!). We have bikes for hire (adult sizes only) should you be interested in exploring the area this way. There are many beautiful, peaceful French villages around, as well as some historic bastide and spa towns. The history of the area is fascinating, and may help you decide where you would like to visit, whether it be chateaus, castle ruins or grottes. If the local swimming pool is not quite large enough then The Mediterranean is an option for a full day trip (it is about 2 and a half hours drive). There are in fact, so many options, that the risk is that you will forget to pause and enjoy the tranquility of the village, the excellent food of the region, and the wine of its neighboring areas!
